Responsive WordPress site, branding, messaging, content, collateral, software development

Books Through Bars is a Philadelphia nonprofit that sends free books to prisoners. BTB needed a fresh look and feel, new messaging, and most importantly, to make it easy for visitors to quickly find out how to donate books, volunteer, and donate money online.

Thus in addition to building a well-organized, mobile-responsive site, we also engineered a shift in its messaging from policy-oriented to story-driven, emphasizing the prisoners’ letters and volunteer experiences. Donor information was enriched to educate donors on exactly what what is needed and how contributions are used. Complex policy issues were re-written for a lay audience. On the back end, we also improved the usability of BTB’s back-end letter-logging data system, which is central to its business processes.

→ WordPress website design, development
→ Content creation & editing
→ Search engine optimization
→ New tagline, messaging, branding
→ Collateral design, coordination
→ Print content: brochures, flyers, donor appeals
→ Social media integration
→ Software development: PHP, jQuery

One of our greatest successes, the new website and collateral directly led to an immediate and substantial increase in book donations and volunteers. BTB also saw its best year-end monetary fund drive results ever: a 40% increase over the second-best year. The site’s excellent performance in search results is key to the organization getting discovered by new audiences. The updated admin system enables more efficient and accurate work, saving volunteers valuable time.
